Resistin is a cystein-rich protein of 11,3kDa consisting of 92 amino acids. Resistin expression was detected in different tissues like bone marrow, lung, pre-adipocytes, macrophages and islets of Langerhans.
A resistin receptor and potential singnalling is not known. Resistin could be involved in the differentiation / proliferation of adipocytes as well as in endothelial inflammation. A new role of resistin as biomarker in cancer is discussed in literature.
